One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him. When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” Then he took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them. -Mark 10:13-16 (NLT) His fingers gently curled, arms flailing. His chin quivered as he let out...

It’s not everyday I get to use my computer skills to give back to the community, but I got to do just that this week. As you probably know, Alabama was rocked by a series of devastating tonados on Wednesday, April 28th. Mitzi Eaker, a fellow blogger and kidmin champion, has setup a...

I often minister to others outside of my own church, whether it’s other children’s ministers that I coach & mentor, speaking opportunities, or graphic and website design. Over the years I’ve used this website off and on to advertise that part of my professional life. So I’ve...
BOLD
posted by Christopher G. Sykes
So, I’ve been invited to do the kids’ part of a revival service at another church in town. I love doing this kind of thing because I get to step out of the normal Sunday morning box and create some new material that my regular church kids may or may not ever see. I’ve already determined a theme – BOLD. It comes from Philippians 4:20 that says, “For I fully expect and hope that I will never be ashamed, but that I will continue to be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past. And I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die.” There will be four sessions with probably a skit,...
Fasting, the Finish Line!
posted by Christopher G. Sykes
Well, I made it. It’s the evening of Day 7 of my fast. In about an hour or so, I’ll be sitting down to my first meal in 168 hours. There were times when I thought it would never get here, and there were times when I thought I could go for weeks. Actually, I woke up today a little sad. I don’t really want this experience to end. I cannot accurately describe to you this feeling. I guess if any of you have been addicts, you may know what I’ve been going through. When I was at my hungriest, I learned to rely on god. I learned to call out to Him for help. Now, I should be doing that all the time, but I...
Fasting, Day 6
posted by Christopher G. Sykes
I cannot help today but to think of Romans 12:1-2 this morning: Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. I am now well into Day 6 of my fast. I truly struggled to finish Day 5 yesterday. Before going to bed last night, I watched one show of my favorite TV channel, The Food Network. I thought...
Fasting, Day 5

Big Bird says “hungry” is the word of the day. My biggest challenge was going to lunch with the guys today and sitting in a mexican restaurant for about 45 minutes without eating any chips and salsa. I’m not sure if I’ll make it through the night. All I can say...
Fasting, Day 4

So I’ve entered Day 4 of my fast. I can’t say it’s been easy, but I’ve never made it this many days before. Since dinner Friday night, I’ve had lots of water and about 4 cups of apple juice. I think I only had one cup yesterday because we ran out. That...
Prayer & Fasting

So we’ve just about completed our month on Determination in Fuzion Studios. And I must say that I’ve been personally challenged this month. Not only is it the start of the new year and a chance to start things “fresh,” it is also the perfect time in my life to make some changes and be determined to make them stick. We found out a couple of weeks ago that baby number four is in the works. I’ve also determined that I will read through the Bible this year, and I haven’t done that in a long time. Basically I’ve been reflecting this month on how I need to be a better father and husband and how I...
Playing in the Snow
posted by Christopher G. Sykes
It snowed about 8 inches at our house last night, so school is out for at least 2 days. That means lots of fun. We had snowball fights and built 4 snowmen. Well, Grayson and Caitlyn did. Campbell just cried after about five minutes, so we had to take her back inside. But we did make snow cream. As I think about my little ones and how fast they grow up, I can’t help but think of them as little angels. But as they grow and spread their wings, I hope and pray that they will always find their way back home. Check out lots of pictures...

Grayson had his very first basketball game today. While he didn’t make any shots (they don’t keep score anyway), he did actually get his hands on the ball. He even went for a pass and took it in the face. Here’s a little trailer I made, the flickr feed, and the full video...
